At 15, Thomas was my very first voice teacher, He is encouraging, nurturing, and demands a lot from his students. But, most importantly, Thomas teaches solid technique! Not only did training with him help me get into one of the top drama conservatories in the country, Carnegie Melon University, but it helps me get through my eight shows a week on Broadway doing the title role in ALLADIN, I go to Thomas when I have a big audition because he helps me understand how good singing technique and good acting technique go hand-in-hand when delivering a song. It is great that you get both a voice teacher and an acting coach in one! It is no wonder that Thomas has so many students who are working all the time!

SingWithThomas Studios is a diamond in a rough of LA’s oversaturated, overpriced, and overrated studios. Thomas genuinely cares for you and will give you and your voice his undivided attention.

Unlike other studios, Thomas won’t just let you pass with a “good enough”. He will work. stretch, and teach you until you understand where the right note is, what it feels like, and how much space/place it needs to be so that you’ll hit it every time! Thomas uses the full hour to work with you. He does cut your time short or rush through your time so you end up only paying for half the class. And he’s reasonably priced! When I was shopping around, I saw some pretty high prices.

I started going to Thomas about a year ago now, just hoping to have a voice. I knew I could sing deep down, but trying to match the people on the radio always discouraged me. With Thomas’ training, not only did I discover my voice, but I extended my vocal range! People that have known me for years that now hear my newly discovered singing voice are BLOWN AWAY! (Lol I’m not joking my grandmother almost fell off the piano bench! Seriously a sight to see lol.)

I’m so happy I found SingWithShepard Studios! I expanded my range as an actor and now am auditioning for musicals. Thomas is a great teacher, mentor, and confidant that makes you feel safe to allow your voice to grow. This is the best singing lessons in Los Angeles!

I have been working in NYC and on Broadway for almost 10 years, and Tom Shepard is the only voice teacher I have ever needed.  He not only gave me a solid vocal technique but he provided me with a wide repertoire of music to use for auditions.  Tom can speak about all the technical aspects of singing but what makes him such an amazing teacher is his ability to help you perform and interpret a song.  When I was with Tom, I learned to sing in all sorts of style from classical opera to standard musical theatre and rock.  Since studying with Tom, my vocal range has expanded tremendously both up and down.  When I am performing, I constantly use the exercises Tom taught me to warm up my voice.  I know I would not be able to do 8 shows a week singing and dancing without relying on Tom’s techniques.  Tom taught me how to sing healthily and consistently; he gave me the confidence to know that I can step onstage night after night and maintain my performance to the level I want.  I highly recommend Tom as a voice teacher to both the aspiring performer and to those who want to maintain and expand their abilities.

I absolutely love Thomas. I cannot possibly say enough great things about him and his teachings, but I will try. Singing has been my passion and focus for as long as I can remember. I have have been fortunate enough to study with vocal coaches in New York and work professionally. However, it wasn’t until I relocated to LA and found Thomasdid I truly discover what my voice could do. He not only offers real, safe and easy to understand technique, but he creates a safe and loving environment to push yourself, maybe fail but to always try again. He has truly opened my eyes to a world of music that I love but never imagined my voice could be apart of. Well now that has all changed because of the tools I have from Thomas I know I can do just about anything. Most importantly, to me, Thomas is not only a wonderful teacher but a spectacular human. That is why I continue to make the drive from Bakersfield to Los Angeles to see him once a week. If you want to up your singing game do yourself a favor and call Thomas now!

I just finished a 5 week run as Diana Goodman in “Next to Normal” – a role I never ever thought I’d play and certainly not at my current “semi-youngish” age.  It was scary and hard, and challenging in a way no other role has been before and I loved it!  A huge part of my success as Diana is thanks to you.  You taught me how to belt.  This opened up opportunities for so many more musical theatre roles that I’ve been lucky to play that would never have been possible (or any good) without your training.  My strictly classical teacher at USC certainly was not teaching me belt techniques.  Not only did you teach me HOW to belt, you taught me how to do it CORRECTLY so that I could complete a 5 week run and not tire or damage my voice.  For that alone, I want to say THANK YOU!

I also want to thank you for something you said at my very first lesson that has always stuck with me about having different vocal “colors” for different characters and moods.  This image was invaluable to me for the part of bipolar Diana who was emotionally all over the place.  I have heard so many good singers who have pretty voices – really very pretty voices – but that’s all it is.  They have no additional colors!  I am so glad you taught me this and I’m still exploring new colors.  You taught me that I don’t have to “sing” every single note in a musical.  The audience has already decided if I am capable or not, so letting this go allowed me to bring so much more rawness and realness to the character.

Though I don’t have the time to really study voice as much as I’d like, I am so grateful for my lessons with you and I thought it was about time I let you know!

Thank you for all you’ve taught me!

“ In the past year and a half that I have studied with Thomas, I have had nothing but great experiences.  He is a wonderful teacher.  He always keeps my attention by being entertaining: he makes me laugh and asks me what is going on in my life with school, my other extracurricular activities, and with my family.  Although we have a great time in class, he always expects and demands the best that I can give him.  He has instilled in me a more professional and disciplined attitude toward my singing than the many other teachers I had before him were able to do.  I have progressed enormously during my year and a half that I have worked with Thomas.  I played my first leading role in an opera and got into a very prestigious and selective opera program at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA).  I have studied with seven different voice coaches and Thomas is by far the best!”  L.A. Thomas is a wonderful teacher! Not only is he a great resource for unique material to sing, but he gives each student the tools they need to achieve their dreams. He knows what Casting Directors are looking for, so he works on the voice and the presentation of a song.  As a dancer, Tom helped me to utilize what I focus on as a dancer and incorporate that knowledge into my placement, posture, and interpretation of a song. His lessons are extremely productive and always fun!

With just a few lessons with Thomas, it’s obvious that he’s a great voice coach.
His technique crosses over all styles. Thomas understands the connection between singing and acting and uses it when he teaches.
His lessons are difficult, but he makes it fun at the same time.  Being a singer/actress makes knowing him, and being able to work with him invaluable.  And he’s a great person on top of it all. 🙂

I found Thomas true google search and it was already a nice feeling before meeting and working with him. The moment we start Working magic happens and i felt at ease and relaxed around him. His approach to Vocal Technic is very unique and artistic. I was always looking someone that will bring out my own creativity rather teaching what they know… It helped me a lot to sing like a magical Princess easy and flawless…Before meeting Tom i took several lessons with other “celebrity” outrageously expensive vocal coaches… and found that most of them dont bother to give true meaningful inspirational lesson…That magic and Heart i fund with Tom and i felt Blessed! I highly Recommend this teacher as a Great Master and Also Great Spirit!
