Whether your interest is theatrical singing or rock/pop, gospel, jazz, or opera, in my studio the principles of singing technique are always stressed equally with those of vocal coaching.

SINGING LESSONS

Classes are tailored to meet the needs of the maturity level of each individual student: maturity in this context meaning not only that of age, but also the level of experience in the crafts of acting and singing. For all students, the Singers Studio aims at providing an informed and safe environment for the inculcation of correct and enduring performance skills.

VOCAL COACHING

A VOCAL COACH is fundamentally a good piano player who is knowledgeable of the body of musical literature and who keeps his/her eye on the pulse of the current trends in “Showbiz” as a necessity in helping his clients pick out and prepare music for auditions and performances. The distinction here is that, while the VOICE TEACHER has the technical expertise to actually build and maintain the singing voice, a VOCAL COACH may have only a limited background in the mechanics of improving the singing voice.

My knowledge of auditioning and performing is first and foremost that of one who made his living as a professional performer and musical director (not to mention a teacher in the New York City and LA professional scenes) for many years.

MUSICAL DIRECTION

I bring a proven record of strong communication, organizational skills, and collaboration with director, cast and orchestra. In my capacity as music director I work closely with the director of a production to support and enhance his/her vision of the show through music.

With shows that do not have a score, I pick songs that add layers of story and emotion to the shows characters. I have excellent piano skills and have played piano for many of the productions I’ve music directed.

In my capacity as music director I am responsible for:

•Auditioning the singers and making casting recommendations to the director

•Scheduling music rehearsals in collaboration with the director, choreographer and stage manager

•Helping cast members learn their music

•Leading music rehearsals for principals, chorus and orchestra

•Serving as conductor–or, in consultation with the producer and director, hiring a conductor

•Playing piano for all rehearsals or selecting a rehearsal pianist and orchestra members

•Working with the sound designer when microphones will be used

•Attending production meetings and rehearsals, as needed

•Working with the musicians union, if applicable.

WORKSHOPS

I am available to hire for weekend workshops or school music programs. I also have a one hour private parent/child musical theatre class that I teach in my studio that is a great way to bond with your child while developing true singing/ performing skills.
