Thomas Shepard Biography

For four decades, Thomas Shepard has been voice teacher and vocal coach to successful professional performers in an amazingly broad spectrum of the entertainment field: from Broadway to Rock, to the world of Opera, with everything in-between. His patience and understanding in particular of the needs of dancers have gained him a reputation with those looking to successfully round out their skills and give them the edge of the triple-threat dancer/ singer/ actor.

His teaching resume includes many of the most prestigious performing and training institutions in the nation: NYU (faculty for eighteen years), The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (faculty for six years), The American Musical And Dramatic Academy (NY and LA), Disney’s The Lion King’s Master Classes, the Summer Theatre Institute at Columbia University, and the Los Angeles Academy of Performing Arts, among others.

"I'm still working full time in the music business"

I’m still working full time in the music business and doing local theatre whenever possible. I just finished a 5 week run as Diana Goodman in “Next to Normal”. A huge part of my success as Diana is thanks to you. You taught me how to belt. This opened up opportunities for so many more musical theatre roles that I’ve been lucky to play that would never have been possible (or any good) without your training. My strictly classical teacher at USC certainly was not teaching me belt techniques. Not only did you teach me HOW to belt, you taught me how to do it CORRECTLY so that I could complete a 5 week run and not tire or damage my voice. For that alone, I want to say THANK YOU!

The moment we start working it was magic!

Before meeting Tom I took several lessons with other “celebrity” outrageously expensive vocal coaches… and found that most of them don’t bother to give true meaningful inspirational lesson…That magic and Heart I fund with Tom and I felt Blessed! I highly Recommend this teacher as a Great Master and Also Great Spirit!
